Cherryduck were recently commissioned to produce the Miss Selfridge Autumn Winter ‘Lookbook’ catwalk video to be used on the front page of their website. We were asked to mimic the lighting used in the flash photography and direct the model to enter the screen from the left and walk off to the right. Due to logistical reasons we were asked to set up the shoot in the Press Room of their head office rather than a studio. With the intricate lighting required, this presented a challenge and the client needed an example for a meeting that afternoon, our lighting designer James set up the lighting accordingly and after a few tests and some creative discussion with `Miss Selfridges’ marketing and E-commerce team, we created their ideal AW10 catwalk. Cherryduck’s Michelle and Natasha filmed the shoot whilst one of our top on site editors, Adam, quickly edited the sequences together as they were being shot and created a High Definition version that would be compressed for presentation on an iPad that afternoon. The video is currently being used on the landing page of the Miss Selfridge website with the option of seeing the whole catwalk video or the individual outfits at the click of a mouse.
Cherryduck were commissioned by Samsung to plan, shoot and edit a short editorial film about one of their new compact cameras, The Samsung EX1. The shoot involved two Cherryduck high Definition Video camera operators, two of our stills photographers and two twin engine Squirrel helicopters. The idea was to take a journalist up above central London as the Sun was going down to test the EX1’s low light ability and to provide a short film and high resolution photographs of the EX1 being used.
With a reconnaissance mission the night before to check the optimum daylight/night time illuminations in London, a 15 minute ‘ideal lighting’ window was decided upon to shoot such attractions as the Canary Wharf tower, Tower Bridge, the London Eye and Westminster.
Arrangements were made with London air space traffic control and the shoot went ahead. James was shooting both stills and video with journalist Charlotte in helicopter 1 and in the second helicopter, shooting air to air, was Natasha on video camera and Russell on stills.
